Riley’s Newsletter 006

Dear Friends,

We have a new (ideally permanent) newsletter title and are focusing just on investment (thankfully a fairly broad topic) from now on. If you want to know personal stuff, ask! I love to hearing from you.

Investment
– I’ve been working on my investment philosophy. It’s still a work in progress, to say the least.
– To improve my valuation skills, I’m learning from an old Joel Greenblatt Course. The link includes videos from his classes, the infamous class notes, and a syllabus.
– Special Situation of note: Brookfield Asset Management announced it’s spinning off its Reinsurance Business. Details are scarce for now (see page 2). Looks like it’ll happen Q2 2021. The spinoff is small ($500 million) compared to the parent ($80 billion market cap). I will keep an eye on this one because we may see some indiscriminate selling pressure. BAM spinoffs have also typically performed well. More to come.

Other
– Dean is a good Private Investor. Check out his blog here.
Lizquidity is a fun Twitter follow. She’s a very insightful investor.

Books
– You Can Be A Stock Market Genius by Joel Greenblatt – coming soon.

Essays
– None.
